Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
Yuaval Noah HarariNon-Fiction
Sapiens is a story of our species Homo Sapiens. Approach is a mixture of philosophy, history and natural sciences. It start from extinction of other human species like Homo Neanderthal and Homo Erectus. It goes through how this one species of big monkeys start building cities and empires. Book ends with speculations what’s going to happen to homo sapiens in future.
Books asks and answers questions like: why we believe in religions, governments, money or laws and how these human made “myths” have help us to work in a big groups like nations and empires?
My opinion
This book is first of all one of the best none-fiction books I have read for a long time. It’s a fascinating story of humankind and interesting analysis of society. It has some clever philosophical points, though author is sometimes bit cynical and repeats his points more than it is necessary. It is by design provocative, but it does it smart way.
For who?
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested on World history or other social sciences.
